Howdy Yall,
My names Jim, and I'm a burner!
I've been twice now and have become (I believe) thoroughly hooked. This year I am planning on building a dome for my camp. It should be very similar to the dome outlined here: burningman.rengeekcentral.com/Dome.html.
So the question I pose to you engineers is this: Will 3/4" EMT be solid enough? The struts will be less then 5' in length, but 3/4" still seems kinda flimsy to me for something so large. I want it to be able to support a hammock off of a few vertices...

Re: Dome on the brain
Thu, November 17, 2005 - 12:38 AMNot exactly... I had a very disturbing experience happen to me my first time out. For several months after I got off of the playa I really was not sure if I wanted to go back. By the time tickets came on sale however my story had changed. The second time out sealed the deal. I'll probably be getting a nice man tattoo before my next trip out :) not to mention the dome! -

Re: Dome on the brain
Thu, November 17, 2005 - 7:24 PM3/4 inch EMT should be fine. Our camp has two domes made of 1" PVC. Considering the greater strength of metal 3/4 should work.
